Mother, writer and daydreamer. Also chocoholic and chick-flick lover. But mainly mommy. To two boys, at that! When not escorting my Elder One (EO) to karate class, I'm trying to get in as many cuddles as possible from my Younger One (YO). And when not doing either, I'm hard-at-work trying to maintain a steady relationship with my laptop. And as for the Man I Married (MIM), well, let’s just put it this way – even though we share a bedroom, our most meaningful conversations are held over the cell-phone!

I've become that kind of mom...

...the type that screams maniacally, "Remember, write quickly, neatly, correctly!" to a car that's pulling out of a drive-way and carrying her 5-years-and-9-months-old son off to school where he has a class test waiting for him.

What was it that I swore when I was a little girl growing up? Oh yes, I remember...that I would never turn into my mom.

Sigh, when I'm crawling down the road to Mommy-Hell, I bet all my good intentions will be blowing raspberries at me.

On an aside: My not-yet-six-year-old has tests!! Bloody class tests and term tests!!! WTF?!?! He now knows the spelling of 'favourite'. Damn it, up until yesterday he used to say 'frayvrit' and now I've had to wipe out that bit of cuteness that used to give me so much pleasure!! He has TESTS!!! Tests that COUNT and will be used for ASSESSMENT!!!! Am I the only one who thinks this is fucked-up?!?

No dear. I think it's fucked up too. They are too young for all this. It's time for them to play & make merry. I feel disgusted in even waking up son up for school whne my munchking wants to juts give me a big hug & sleep.

It's a bad world!!

totally with you on this one. education system is a mess.

i'd like to wave a magic wand and change it. change it fast.

awwww. my lil nephew has tests too and it feels really unfair to see him cramming spellings and looking at his mom with eyes that say, "when can I play?"

:) count me in! I was stunned at the admissions procedure for kindergarten schools in Kolkata!! WTF??!!! The bags weigh about 50 times more than the poor kids! We never had exams and tests till class 5 back in our days at Loreto!! :) I guess we turned out pretty fine, didnt we?

Yes MM it is a pathetic state of affairs...and very VERY few schools are actually an exception...

some schools dont take exams till class8th..its more PBL (project based learning there)I have worked in two such schools.and believe me they were awesome..
we used to have allround assessment instead of 'tests'

do see if something like that can be found for both of them...

about turning into your mum?:D
ah!well!ma says thats god's way of providing justice and giving mas the world over the chance to say''I told you so''
:D:D:D

and I just have a hunch that I will be in the same boat:D:D

first time on your blog, came via IHM
arre enjoy the growing up days with your children and relish each and every moment. you are going to miss them when they grow up and start their own life. ( this coming from a person who has already been through the whole drill of schooling and child rearing)

hey momma

it has been wonderful reading your words here. fabulous.

even i share your horror at tests for 6 year olds. these school masters should be whipped in public.

i hope Kapil Sibal succeeds in getting the sting out of those silly schools.

perhaps we will return and start a school for our kids, you can join us then.

have fun with your kids and write about it. with a kid on its way, me and my wife would love to read more.
